- ➤ City officials launched the Second Saturday Sanitary District Cleanup Drop-Off Program—offering residents a new way to dispose of items from May through August. The first cleanup is on Saturday, May 16 at the Street Department Garage at 1329 Deming Street from 8 a.m. to noon, with one drop-off per residence. Tribune-Star
- ➤ The Wabash Valley Herb Society is hosting a free garden and craft event at the Vigo County Fairgrounds on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (over 90 vendors are expected) to showcase various plants, trees, herbs, and handmade gifts. WTHI-TV

- ➤ George Issa retired from George’s Cafe on April 28 at ISU’s Hulman Memorial Student Union — his last day was marked by a giant retirement card filled with heartfelt messages celebrating his food and smile. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Indiana State University board of trustees approved a $183.5 million operating budget for 2026-27, set to begin on July 1. The decision supports general university operations for the upcoming academic year. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana State University is holding commencement ceremonies today at the Hulman Center, awarding over 380 graduate students and 1,100 undergraduates, and presenting a posthumous doctorate to the family of Rex Kendall. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College holds its 192nd commencement at Hamilton Arena at the Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center today. The ceremony will award 337 degrees and certificates to the school’s second largest graduating class—campus students in the morning and online and graduate attendees in the afternoon. WTHI-TV
- ➤ During Teacher Appreciation Week, Rose-Hulman professor Dr. David Mutchler is honored for 32 years of inspiring students in and outside the classroom. He leads a program where his students visit nearby schools to teach programming + robotics. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Indiana State University board of trustees approved naming Hulman Center's Woodruff Sycamore Loft after longtime supporters Troy and Melissa Woodruff donated $1 million, which will fund new premium seating and renovations to both basketball locker rooms. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Terre Haute Police Department held a memorial service on Friday in front of headquarters to honor officers who sacrificed their lives, with special recognition for fallen officers from Vigo County. Members of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and the THPD Honor Guard led the ceremony. Tribune-Star
