- ➤ Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer is launching a mental health initiative called Move for Mental Health that will hold weekly walks every Monday at 6 p.m. at Dewey Point in West Terre Haute throughout May to boost both physical movement and mental well-being + strengthen community ties. - ➤ CASA will hold its annual free will donation yard sale on May 17 as the public is invited to clear out closets, basements, garages, and attics and begin the item drop at 9 a.m.—the sale starts at 10 a.m. with helpers ready to unload donations. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Police are asking for help identifying suspects after a dark-colored pickup truck allegedly stole large exhaust fans from Baesler's Market while it was undergoing maintenance work. WTHI-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Sullivan Elementary School held its third annual Derby Day where first graders learned about Kentucky Derby history, solved derby-themed math problems, and made jockey hats. Special guests Otto Thorwarth (retired jockey and actor featured in Secretariat) and Brian Elmore shared their experiences with horse racing (marking the school’s third celebration) during the event in Sullivan. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After one year of operation, the Terre Haute Casino Resort raised over $1 million in supplemental wagering tax from April to June that has funded projects such as street paving, sidewalk improvements, demolition and park renovations. City and county officials say the revenue is vital for upgrades not covered by property taxes—like IT department enhancements in Vigo County. WTWO
- ➤ Today, community leaders unveiled the updated See You in Terre Haute Community Plan at the Chamber of Commerce, which outlines 5 key pillars aimed at reversing population decline and spurring local growth. Mayor Sakbun and county officials said the plan builds on last year's gain of 166 residents + a planning grant from the Wabash Valley Community Foundation to guide future improvements. WTWO
