- ➤ Garmong employees volunteered this morning to clean up downtown by picking up trash, planting spring flowers and spreading mulch. Local Chamber leaders said the event shows how community effort keeps the area welcoming for residents and visitors. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The city is hosting a block party at Herz-Rose Park today to celebrate new basketball courts funded by the Indiana Pacers Foundation through a State of Play grant—featuring activities for families, food and inflatables at the park. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Scientists with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified remains of Terre Haute native Wayne Edward Newton—a WWII seaman who died at Pearl Harbor—and his burial is set for May 16 at Grandview Cemetery; his name now graces American Legion Post 346 at 1346 Wabash Avenue, a longtime local landmark. - ➤ Indiana State University announced three commencement speakers who will address graduates at its May 9 spring ceremonies at Hulman Center + the events will celebrate undergraduate and graduate achievements. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Union Health Foundation awarded 99 scholarships totaling over $123K to 77 students pursuing careers in nursing, physical therapy, and pharmacy during a ceremony at Union Hospital today. The foundation has given over $1 million in scholarships since 1985 to support local students. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Mosquito numbers are up in the Wabash Valley because warm spring temperatures and extra rain boost breeding conditions. Vigo County Health Department’s Vector Control Division will spray soon + and advises using EPA-registered repellents at dawn and dusk. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The American Red Cross Southwest Chapter is asking donors today to help patients with illness or injury by donating blood for one hour. Donors receive a $20 gift card & can schedule their appointments online. WTHI-TV
