  • Bob Baesler (owner of Baesler’s Market) was honored by the Salvation Army for raising more than $200,000 through his years of work with the Red Kettle Campaign. He made a matching donation and thanked his customers and volunteers for their support.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Terre Haute as staff honored the legacy of founder Eva Kor, who died in 2022. The museum is located (1532 South Third Street) and is open (Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 25, Global Youth Service Day, Terre Haute South student Ibrahim Daibes led a STEM exploration workshop for Franklin Elementary School fourth graders during library hour in Ms. Hersman's class—he used a Chromebook and projector to pose science questions and spark interest in STEM.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Indiana Department of Health holds a public comment meeting at Oakley Auditorium at Ivy Tech at 5:30 p.m. to gather input on the proposed merger of Union and Regional hospitals—officials will decide on the merger's Certificate of Public Advantage by August 13.  WTHI-TV
  • Indivisible Wabash Valley announced two events—today from 1 to 4 p.m. members will gather at the Vigo County Courthouse and file into City Hall around 5:40 to discuss union workers’ concerns, and on Saturday morning the group will hold another peaceful meeting.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thrive West Central is offering a Dementia Friendly Business Training Program to help businesses in Vigo, Parke, Clay, Vermillion, and Sullivan County support individuals with dementia by teaching staff to recognize signs, communicate clearly, and create accessible spaces. The one-hour course, developed by IU Health, awards an official certification—if at least 50% of staff complete the training—listed on the Dementia Friendly Indiana website.  WTWO
