  • The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony today for Cornerstone Builders of Terre Haute — a locally owned business with 15 years of experience in custom homes, remodels, and outdoor living spaces. The company is located at 6515 State Road 42.  WTHI-TV
  • Rail & Rye will have its grand opening Friday at 679 Wabash Ave., located next to Federal Coffee. Owner Brandon Halleck has added a local painting of the Big Boy No. 4014 locomotive to the new eatery.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marketing students at Indiana State University raised over $2,300 for the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance by selling custom metal can coolers — each costing $25. The class project turned into a local fundraising effort that showed community spirit.  Tribune-Star
  • Vigo County high school students showed handmade crafts, woodworking products and trash bin cleaning services at the CEO Trade Show Wednesday, a program that helped young entrepreneurs learn business skills.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road work on U.S. 150 near the Paul Dresser Bridge will continue into fall as traffic lanes are shifted to complete the project; the new pavement is expected to serve motorists for 50 years (local authorities oversee the improvements).  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana State University Police are increasing patrols ahead of commencement on May 9, adding extra personnel and security systems (including weapon detection) to manage large crowds and monitor online threats. The department advises everyone to stay aware and report any suspicious behavior.  WTHI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana high school basketball officials are weighing a 35-second shot clock after most coaches backed the change. The IHSAA will vote on the proposal May 4 and, if approved, the rule will start in the 2028-2029 season.  WTHI-TV
