COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CASA in Vigo County is raising awareness during National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month this April to urge everyone in the Wabash Valley to speak up about suspected abuse—an effort aimed at protecting over 700 children. CASA Director Glenna Cheesman said small actions like checking on neighbors and reporting concerns can make a big difference.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students from Terre Haute South High School participated in a remembrance ceremony at CANDLES Holocaust Museum to honor Holocaust victims— they lit candles and read passages to remember those killed during World War II. The museum, founded by Holocaust survivor Eva Kor, offered a tour that taught visitors about this tragic history and why it must not be forgotten.  WTWO

  • Bloom by Highland Academy will soon open on Terre Haute’s south side near Haute City Center to serve children from infancy to age 3. The micro daycare facility is one of six pilot sites in Indiana using Ivy Tech grants and FSSA support—Mayor Brandon Sakbun said.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana State University announced the Rankin Distinguished Senior Award — Daniel J. Bradley Medal for Leadership, Scholarship, and Service to honor Sycamore students who excel in academics, leadership, and community service. The awards underscore the university's commitment to recognizing outstanding student contributions.  Tribune-Star
  • Dr. Terry Daugherty, dean of ISU’s Scott College of Business, was named one of 100 Centennial Scholars by the University of Alabama for his strong academic work. He earned his master’s degree from Alabama in 1999 and worked at Vanderbilt, Texas at Austin, and Akron before joining Indiana State.  WTWO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said he is opposed to a proposed merger between Union Health and Regional Hospital because he believes it will reduce competition—raising costs, stifling innovation, and limiting access to care. He wrote his concerns to the Indiana Department of Health, which will hold a public town hall at Ivy Tech on May 1 to discuss the merger.  WTHI-TV
  • On Thursday, the West Central Indiana Partnership launched the Regional Census to gather current data on the region's residents and businesses—an effort meant to improve local planning.  Tribune-Star
