  • Catholic Charities of Terre Haute received a $33,000 grant from Duke Energy Foundation this week + will use the funds for food, safe shelter, household items and youth programs that support local needs.  Tribune-Star
  • White Violet Center for Eco-Justice and the Sisters of Providence are hosting their 26th annual Earth Day Festival today in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering live music, wildlife presentations, woodcarving demonstrations, and educational booths with food vendors.  WTHI-TV
  • Vigo County CASA hosts its 8th annual rummage sale today at Memorial United Methodist Church on Poplar Street in Terre Haute — donations drop off start at 9 a.m. and sales begin at 10 a.m. to benefit local children.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • An oversight board in Vigo County is studying ways to support the school district’s plan to merge 23 buildings into 16—10 elementary, four middle and two high schools. The review will help guide facility consolidation for improved education services.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana State University has announced its 2026 faculty awards recipients, recognizing outstanding achievements in teaching, research, and service (the highest honor for faculty). The selections reflect a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success.  Tribune-Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new overlook offering sweeping views of the Wabashiki wetlands will be dedicated at 6 p.m. April 25 at Dewey Point to honor Charlie Williams, whose vision brought the project to life.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana DNR plans to lift protection for armadillos as officials say the animals are common; an exhibit (from seven years ago at the Vigo County Fair) showed how the species has become a regular sight. The move could soon change local wildlife management.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Greene County Sheriff's Office promotes Project Lifesaver for autism awareness this month by offering tracking bracelets designed to help locate children in emergencies (each device uses a unique radio frequency).
