COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Fire Department hosted its 19th Annual Firefighters’ Recognition and Commendation Awards Dinner on Tuesday evening at the Convention Center, honoring firefighters & emergency personnel for their bravery and dedication over the past year.  Tribune-Star
  • Duke Energy awarded grants to four groups supporting healthy aging, foster care, infant care and housing. Catholic Charities of Terre Haute received $33K in Vigo County, and three Knox County organizations—Vincennes University Foundation with $8K and two groups with $5K each—were funded.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana State University held its eighth annual Give to Blue Day on Wednesday, a 24-hour fundraiser aiming for 2,000 donors (with hopes to beat last year’s $1.5 million to support students and programming).  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Road 241 near Monroe City will be closed Monday, April 27 for a pipe replacement project, with crews expecting to finish in two days, weather permitting. Motorists should follow the detour via U.S. 50 + State Road 57 to State Road 61 and use caution in the work zone.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Witham Health Services and Parkview Health announced a planned merger that will expand patient-centered care in the community later this year, pending Boone County Commissioners and Council approval.  Tribune-Star
  • Vigo County Health Department advises residents to use bug repellent and check clothing for ticks after outdoor activities this spring.  WTHI-TV
