CRIME NEWS

  • Police shot a man who crashed into a squad car after a standoff that began shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday near Indiana 59 and 42 in Clay County—Dale L. Evans, 47 of Terre Haute was flown to an Indianapolis hospital.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • ZZ Top will perform at The Mill on Oct. 10 as part of The Hoosier Lottery Concert Series, and tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. This will be the band's first show in Terre Haute since their March 2, 2000 concert at the Hulman Center that drew over 6,000 fans.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Transportation announced it will temporarily close Indiana 159 between Blackhawk and Lewis starting Monday, April 28, for a culvert replacement (work is expected to last until late-May and may change with the weather).  Tribune-Star
  • Today, the City of Terre Haute launched Safe Streets Terre Haute to reduce traffic accidents & fatalities by asking residents to share safety concerns using an online survey and interactive map. The project, funded by a $200,000 federal grant, will hold two public forums as it works to finalize a road safety plan this summer.  WTHI-TV
  • INDOT is planning a project at U.S. 41 and Dixie Bee intersection to fix traffic backups and reduce accidents—it will add a slotted left turn that cuts conflict points from 48 to about 8. A public meeting is set for Tuesday, April 22 — details will be shared for upcoming changes.  WTHI-TV
  • Drivers in Vigo County face two road closures this month — East Gross Road is closed from McDaniel Road to Doberman Street until April 25 due to flooding damage, while the Dallas Drive and Dearborn Street intersection is shut for culvert replacement until April 22. Officials said the projects use ARPA funds — closure dates may change with weather conditions.  WTHI-TV
  • Gov. Mike Braun launched the Make Indiana Healthy Again initiative on Tuesday — joined by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Dr. Mehmet Oz as they signed nine executive orders to change food assistance and student fitness policies. Protesters gathered outside the Indiana State Library as officials introduced their new public health approach.  WTHI-TV
