COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Herz-Rose Park Activity Center now accepts reservations; the splash pad and restrooms will open May 1, and the fee is $152 per day for up to 50 people.  WTHI-TV
  • Pimento School is hosting a reunion dinner on May 9 at Oregon Baptist Church (11200 S. Carlisle St.) in Terre Haute, with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6; the meal is $20 for former students, teachers, family, and friends.  Tribune-Star
  • The Terre Haute Parks & Recreation Department opened a new playground at Spencer Park (1461 Eighth Avenue) today with equipment ready for children to explore while additional swings will be added soon.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spruce Street A.M.E. Church and its parsonage in Terre Haute have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, marking an honor for its role in Black heritage. Related sites in Indianapolis and Washington were also recognized for their importance.  Tribune-Star
  • The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra performed three Adventure Concerts for more than 3,000 local students Friday at Tilson Auditorium on Indiana State University's campus, with students coming from over 40 nearby elementary schools.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rose-Hulman was selected to join the EcoCAR Innovation Challenge, a four-year collegiate competition that launched on Monday, Apr. 13 in Terre Haute. Faculty and students participated in the event, paving the way for innovative automotive engineering research on campus.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Road 48 near Jasonville will close for a bridge deck overlay project starting April 27; drivers must follow a detour via State Road 59, State Road 54, U.S. 231 + State Road 157 and slow down in work zones as work continues until early July.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Greene County General Hospital in Linton announced Tuesday that it served Anthem a breach notice + claiming the insurer missed key contractual payments.  Tribune-Star
  • Vigo County food inspections from April 6 to April 11 showed 22 establishments had no violations while others had issues (misbranded fish, missing biohazard kits, and improper food storage) that need corrective action. Health officials promise follow-up measures to protect local public health.  WTHI-TV
