COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WTWO and local organizations are running the Pack it Back Summer Food Drive to help local children in need, with Steel Dynamics providing new backpacks to be filled with easy-to-prepare nonperishable food items. People can donate at Toyota of Terre Haute plus Baesler’s Market as the Vigo County School Corporation delivers the backpacks while Davis Park Elementary Principal Dr. Tammy Roeschlein said the program will help supplement summer meals.  WTWO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Fire Department responded to a fire early Monday at 7:25 a.m. at 1422 Plum St.—the blaze damaged three residences.  Tribune-Star
  • On Monday at 7:25 a.m., the Terre Haute Fire Department responded to a fire on the 1400 block of Plum Street that damaged three homes—an unoccupied residence at 1422 was a total loss, a garage at 1420 sustained minor damage, and heavy damage to the rear of a home at 1424 led to evacuations.  WTWO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vigo County School Corporation approved $20,000 in funding for the Project Lead the Way Launch Program grant at Fayette Elementary School. The funds will support hands-on stem learning and teacher training (for the school years 2025 to 2026 and 2026 to 2027) and may later expand to additional schools.  WTWO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Health will soon accept public comments on a proposed merger between Union Hospital and Regional Hospital at a town hall set for May 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Oakley Auditorium on Ivy Tech’s Terre Haute campus. Union Hospital filed a Certificate of Public Advantage that gives the state power to approve or deny the merger — the department will decide by August 13.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Vigo County Health Department inspected food service establishments from April 7 to April 12 and found some locations, such as Camp Navigate After School, Pizza Hut Delivery, and Wagon Wheel, had critical and non-critical violations—while several other sites were free of issues or approved to open or operate.  WTHI-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An 81-year-old Army veteran and teacher in Terre Haute said she is selling her home after water and sewage bills topped $12,000 since January. Indiana American Water said the meter is working (with no leaks found) while the city said it has little control over private utilities.  WTHI-TV
