COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Walmart and Sam's Club launched their 13th annual Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign in West Central Indiana that runs in stores and online through May 3. Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank is 352K pounds short of USDA food due to federal cuts (federal funding cut).  WTHI-TV
  • Shoe Bus Week (a program to provide shoes for children in need) began at City Hall as city leaders announced the effort. Cruise for Shoes will run Saturday at Hulman Center from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with tickets starting at $65.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Vigo County School Board approved David Mahurin as the new boys basketball coach at Terre Haute South Vigo High School on Monday, pending final onboarding; he replaces Braydon Jefferson (a former Braves standout and school graduate).  Tribune-Star
  • The University of Southern Indiana will hold a public information meeting about the Montezuma Elementary charter school application at 6 p.m. April 23 at the Scout House (800 Jackson St, Montezuma).  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Braun has proclaimed Public Safety Telecommunicator Week to honor 911 operators who support first responders and help during emergencies statewide.  WTHI-TV
  • On Monday, Terre Haute fire recruits participated in live burns at the training facility off North Brown Avenue, marking an important milestone in their practical firefighting training.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana State Police and Indiana Department of Agriculture warn drivers to slow down and allow extra time when passing large farm equipment on Hoosier roads this spring. They advise using designated passing zones and confirming the equipment is not turning before passing.  WTHI-TV
