- ➤ The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce and Garmong Construction teamed up Thursday morning to clean up trash along Wabash Avenue. Garmong dedicated 18 employees who worked for three hours cleaning flowerbeds and blowing debris off the street—hoping to make the cleanup an annual tradition—showing their commitment to the area. - ➤ Tonight the Hulman Center will host the Terre Haute Women’s Club Cruise for Shoes event featuring a passport system for food and drink tastings from six countries. Proceeds will support the club’s Shoe Bus Project that gives new shoes to children in need—its biggest fundraiser to date. WTWO
- ➤ The Meadows Shopping Center is hosting its annual Easter Bazaar today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—more than 80 vendors will offer Easter and spring-themed items inside and outside while visitors take photos with the Easter Bunny. WTHI-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, Owen Reynolds, a 23-year-old senior at Rose-Hulman, was weeks from graduation when on Wednesday the Terre Haute Police Juvenile Unit arrested him on charges of child pornography and child exploitation after a tip linked him to a local and an Arizona address—he posted bail on April 10th. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Indiana Gov. Mike Braun has ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Clay County tomorrow from sunrise to sundown to honor volunteer firefighter Roy A. Smith. Smith died on April 5 after losing control of his vehicle while responding to a call—he also served as an EMT and deputy coroner. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Lawmakers in the Indiana Statehouse changed several bills on Thursday before end-of-session deadlines; the revisions include a two-year freeze on prices for large nonprofit hospitals, a temporary stop to 13th checks for retirees, and a road funding bill that could let towns add an extra wheel tax. Floor amendments will be approved by end-of-day Monday with final votes on Tuesday, and conference committees will work out the remaining details before the session ends. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Clay County activated the Indiana 211 system to let residents report storm and flood damage from March 3 onward. Governor Braun declared 18 counties a state of disaster emergency—opening a door for financial help—while officials gather the reports. WTWO
- ➤ Governor Mike Braun declared a state of disaster emergency for 18 Indiana counties after recent flooding, severe storms and tornado damage. The 30-day order allows the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to provide financial assistance—covering counties like Martin, Owen and Gibson where a tornado briefly touched down. WTHI-TV
