COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CASY Early Learning Center is enrolling at 2001 N. Hunt Road and will open in August as a child care facility for families. A flood warning for the Wabash River at Terre Haute is in effect until Sunday morning, with water expected to drop below flood stage by Saturday evening.  Tribune-Star
  • Construction on the Riley Spur Trail is nearing completion as crews finish the base asphalt and prepare to install the surface layer and concrete crossing in the next four to five weeks — residents will soon enjoy an accessible trail south of town.  WTHI-TV
  • The Providence Food Pantry served the local community Thursday morning from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in West Terre Haute with help from Helping Hands, local churches and civic groups; the director said long lines did not affect every visitor’s equal share + more than 400 donors contributed over the last year.  WTHI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Verve is closing its current space and will reopen next door at Scout's Pizzeria as a speakeasy-style bar with low lights, elevated drinks and a laid-back vibe. The bar received renewed liquor license approval from state regulators.  WTHI-TV
  • Hoosiers at Home held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today in Terre Haute as the company launched local non-medical home care services & shared its commitment to quality care with employees. The event marks the start of their new operations in our city.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Author Beverly Gage explored local landmarks including the Eugene V. Debs Home + the birthplace of the Coca-Cola contour bottle in Terre Haute as she gathered research for her new book on America’s 250-year history. Mark Bennett reported the journey spotlights our city’s rich heritage.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln High School hosted a career fair yesterday with 141 local businesses where students from Lincoln, North Knox, South Knox and Rivet high schools learned about career opportunities and connected with recruiters & community organizations.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana State University is preparing to hold its eighth annual Give to Blue Day on April 15. The event will offer the campus community, alumni, and friends a chance to raise funds for student programs.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal Correctional Complex Terre Haute is hosting a hiring event for correctional officers, nurses, and physician assistants on Tuesday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the United States Penitentiary's front lobby (4700 Bureau Road South) where bonuses and resume help are offered.  WTHI-TV
  • On Thursday, financial consultant Tim Berry (former Indiana auditor) told the school facility oversight board that Vigo County finances were really strong. He credited careful oversight with keeping the county financially stable and setting up future discussions for the community.  Tribune-Star
  • Gov. Mike Braun suspended the state's gas tax for 30 days to ease rising fuel costs as a 15- to 25-cent drop in per-gallon prices is expected soon (officials will monitor for price gouging).  WTHI-TV
