COMMUNITY NEWS

  • TREES Inc. will celebrate 35 years with a free event at Gilbert Park from 3 to 6 p.m. on April 26 to honor everyone who has planted a tree, volunteered, or supported the group. Flood warnings remain in effect for the Wabash River near Terre Haute as minor flooding has affected Pottsville Street until early Tuesday morning.  Tribune-Star
  • Regional leaders unveiled a West Central Indiana community plan Tuesday morning at the Wabash Valley Community Foundation to boost education, economic development, and quality of life. The plan will use matching funds from Lilly Endowment—if a donor gives one dollar, Lilly gives two—to support scholarships and early childhood education over the coming years.  WTWO

  • The Indiana Department of Homeland Security activated the 211 system to record storm damage in Vigo County after tornado, strong storms, and flooding were reported—residents can call 211 or 866—211—9966 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to file a report.  WTWO
  • The Indiana Department of Homeland Security activated 2-1-1 to help Hoosiers report storm damage from recent severe weather — residents can file reports online or by phone with the call center open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute officials will raise the new city flag today at 5:30 p.m. in a 15-minute ceremony at City Hall's courtyard after resident Ethan Page's Facebook effort gathered 64 flag designs from 37 artists. Flood warnings remain in effect for the Wabash River near Terre Haute with minor flooding expected to continue until early Tuesday morning.  Tribune-Star
  • Gov. Mike Braun signed an order that makes state-affiliated nonprofits show all their funding details and file any missing reports from the past 10 years by Dec. 31—ensuring full transparency. Two more orders set job growth and higher pay as top goals and call for new maps to show each region’s strengths.  WTWO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Between March 31 and April 5, the Vigo County Health Department inspected stores and restaurants that serve food. Some locations, including Sunrise Family Restaurant, Butta’s Better BBQ, Little Caesar’s and Taco Bell had critical issues—while Mana from Seven, Square Donuts, The Elm Grove and Sarah’s Philippines Store showed only minor or no concerns and Gillicans Pizzeria and Creamery with The Noodle Nook were approved to open.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana Department of Health confirmed five measles cases in Allen County on Tuesday, raising the statewide total for 2025 to six. Flood warnings remain in effect along the Wabash River near Terre Haute — Pottsville Street is flooded and officials expect water levels to drop Monday afternoon.  Tribune-Star
