COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At a press conference Tuesday, the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce and West Central Indiana Partnership shared U.S. Census Bureau estimates showing a steady population increase in Vigo County (a sign of local growth). The figures suggest ongoing momentum for the community.  Tribune-Star
  • Student aid forms must be submitted by April 15 to be eligible for state aid, key for graduating students. A flood warning remains in effect for the Wabash River at Terre Haute until Monday afternoon and drivers are advised to avoid flooded areas.  Tribune-Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gray Media completed its acquisition of local stations WTHI-TV and WLFI-TV yesterday — following final approvals from the FCC and DOJ. The trusted stations will continue delivering local news, weather, and sports coverage in Terre Haute and Lafayette.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission unanimously renewed The Verve’s liquor license after local officials (Mayor Brandon Sakbun and Police Chief Kevin Barrett) sent letters of support, while owner Connie Wrin plans to announce a new venture in a few months.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana high school seniors must complete the FAFSA by April 15 to graduate and be considered for state financial aid, though only 45% have filed their application as of early April; experts say filing is wise even if college plans are uncertain.  WTHI-TV
  • On Tuesday, members of the Oversight Board met with county commissioners and council — delaying the school reconsolidation recommendation from the original April 15 deadline to July to allow additional review.  Tribune-Star

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana American water announced plans on Tuesday to build a drinking water treatment system to remove PFAS & address chemical concerns in Terre Haute.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Revenue announced a tax amnesty period for overdue taxes to run from July 15 until Sept. 15 so individuals and businesses can settle debts without penalties+ as directed by last year’s state budget for an eight-week program planned to finish by 2026.  Tribune-Star
