COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Indiana American Water will begin its annual water main flushing on Monday in Terre Haute before moving to Sullivan, Farmersburg, Merom and Mecca. The work is scheduled on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—customers in Merom and Mecca will receive a 24-hour boil water advisory.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana Pacers Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to renovate the basketball court at Herz-Rose Park in Terre Haute. The park is the second recipient under the State of Play initiative (launched late last year to boost community courts and improve children's health), and the work has already begun.  Tribune-Star

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A large fire at Russ Fisher Truck Parts closed East Margaret Drive near Indiana 46 yesterday after firefighters were dispatched at 12:10 p.m., and a flood warning is in effect for the Wabash River near Terre Haute today until further notice as heavy rains are expected to raise water levels above flood stage.  Tribune-Star
  • A fire broke out in the detail shop at Russ Fisher Truck Parts on Margaret Drive east of State Road 46 Friday afternoon, and firefighters shut the road until about 5:30 p.m.—no injuries were reported and investigators have not determined the cause.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indiana State University will celebrate 100 years of theater productions on April 12 by hosting a luncheon with alumni, students and community members and guided tours of Dreiser and Seventh Street Theaters — followed by a pre-show toast before the performance of Reefer Madness, which runs from April 10-13 with an extra matinee on April 13. Registration for the event closes Friday.  WTWO
  • Entertainers Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp will bring their 30-year friendship to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s Hatfield Hall Theater stage on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the college’s 2024–25 Performing Arts Series—where they will perform songs from their careers including iconic hits from Rent.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov Mike Braun announced Wednesday that Indiana State University will offer automatic admission and a $3,000 scholarship to Indiana public high school students who earn the new Enrollment Honors Plus Seal—this change is part of a redesigned diploma framework aimed at lowering college costs.  Tribune-Star

  • Local veteran Jerry Paul, who served ten months and two days in Vietnam (Army's 498th Medical Company), has been awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.  Tribune-Star
