COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday night, severe weather struck New Goshen — causing widespread damage with downed power lines, uprooted trees and a destroyed garage. Residents expressed shock at the heavy winds and have begun cleanup efforts while supporting one another. WTWO
- ➤ DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory celebrated 100 years of service to the community after State Rep. Bob Heaton presented a certificate in recognition of their work. A flood warning remains in effect in Terre Haute—heavy rainfall is expected to cause moderate flooding along the Wabash River with some roads already impassable. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Indiana State University resolved a lawsuit with the Pride Center and the ACLU after the group claimed school officials blocked a campus Pride Fest. In a joint statement, the school said it will be a nonfinancial sponsor of the 2025 festival held this September at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute. WTWO
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Multiple properties in New Goshen sustained damage from Wednesday night's storms—according to Vigo County officials. There were no reports of injuries as local authorities continue to assess the situation. Tribune-Star
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Greene County Sheriff’s Department warned drivers to avoid flooded roads after heavy rain left several local roads underwater last night—more rain is expected later this week. WTWO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Mike Braun activated the Indiana National Guard to aid storm recovery after severe weather hit at least 41 counties. Units from Jasper, Vincennes, and Seymour are already helping while troops in Bedford, Terre Haute, Indianapolis, and Chandler stand ready to support flood prevention—protecting critical roads and homes. - ➤ Indiana State University settled a federal lawsuit with the Pride Center of Terre Haute over its attempt to move Pride Fest off campus, and the university will sponsor the event nonfinancially at Fairbanks Park in September. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Duke Energy has proposed to build a new natural gas-fired power plant at the site of its coal-fired Cayuga Generating Station in Vermillion County, and the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is accepting written comments through May 1 to include in the official case record.
