- ➤ Two years ago on March 31, a devastating EF-3 tornado struck Sullivan—taking multiple lives and leaving lasting damage that still makes residents fearful of storms. Severe weather is forecast for Wednesday, which adds to the community's ongoing concerns. WTWO
- ➤ The Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club will host its derby-inspired Brims and Bowties Gala on May 3 at the Terre Haute Casino Resort to raise funds for kids' programs and staff training. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two people were injured after a crash on U.S. 41 at Old Royse Road Friday afternoon—one was flown to an Indianapolis hospital—while a flood watch is in effect from Wednesday evening through Sunday morning as heavy rainfall is forecast to cause flash flooding in low-lying areas. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology announced a major renovation of Speed Hall — its first-year residence hall from 1963 — funded by significant gifts to update student housing. A flood watch is in effect for central and surrounding areas from Wednesday evening through Sunday morning as heavy rainfall may cause street and river flooding. Tribune-Star
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting today, Vigo County is hosting its annual tire amnesty where residents must call ahead and drop off old tires for recycling at 1241 Seventh Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday until May 2nd—this free program helps prevent mosquito breeding by recycling tires instead of sending them to landfills. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Vigo County Commissioners are aggressively pursuing a multi-million-dollar grant from the Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addiction (DHMA) to fund construction for a Community Corrections expansion. The project (costing $35M to $40M and set to double bed space to help reduce jail overcrowding) will see its grant application process begin this summer. WTHI-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mental Health America of West Central Indiana got a federal grant to give short-term rental help to people who are now or were once in the criminal justice system in Vigo County—this aid helps them secure housing in a tough market. CEO Myra Wilkey said the funds, set aside by Congress in 2023, will be a short-term fix to help them get back on their feet—she expects the grant to stay in the budget for a while. WTWO
