ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police are investigating a serious crash when a bus and a dump truck collided in front of Lost Creek Elementary School at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Hunt Road in Terre Haute (the bus was not marked as a school bus) as ambulances responded and authorities said details of injuries remain unclear.  WTHI-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A man named Brandon Houser, 36, led police on a six-mile chase in Shelburn on Thursday night after refusing a traffic stop—he crashed into a tree, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and was booked into Sullivan County Jail to face charges for resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and criminal mischief.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pre-k enrollment for young children at Vigo County School Corporation will begin Tuesday, April 1 with both full-day and half-day options available, and programs require children to be four by August 1 although some sites allow three-year-olds—families can attend registration events at Deming Early Learning Center with proper documents to sign up.  WTHI-TV
  • Michael A. Huhnke, a 1975 alumnus, and his wife Karen donated funds to create the Dr. Bruce Danner Endowed Faculty Fellowship—which will support a current professor in physics, optical engineering, or nanoengineering and honor Huhnke’s former faculty advisor at Rose-Hulman.  WTWO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Multiple road projects in the Wabash Valley will cause detours starting March 31, with Thorpe Road closed from National Avenue to Sarah Meyers Drive until April 1 and Meneely Street closed from Stewart Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue until April 14. State Road 63 will shift traffic beginning March 31 and the I-74 westbound exit ramp will close on or after May 12, while a US 50 ramp near Vincennes will close on or after April 4 through May — INDOT said the projects are part of a larger intersection improvement effort set to finish by year end.  WTWO
  • Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita says General Motors tricked drivers by selling cars with OnStar technology that secretly tracked personal data, which made auto insurance more expensive—he filed a civil case on March 19 seeking a stop to the practice and penalties. GM has not yet responded to the claims.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bird flu was confirmed in Crawford County when birds collected from the area tested positive for avian influenza—health officials said the risk to the public remains low and advised residents to avoid contact with sick or dead birds—according to the Illinois Department of Public Health on March 28th.  WTHI-TV
