CULTURE NEWS

  • Members of the Vigo County Capital Improvement Board decided to form an alliance to raise funds for the Indiana Theatre during a Wednesday morning meeting at the Terre Haute Convention Center—Jerry Arnold of the Crosley Radio Players said he has reached out to Wabash Valley Community Foundation CEO Beth Tevlin about starting a fund for the theater.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Greg Goode's school funding legislation to help improve Vigo County School Corp. facilities was amended into House Bill 1002—giving it priority in the House. Lawmakers will review the amendment in upcoming sessions.  Tribune-Star
  • Vigo County Commissioners sent a letter urging state lawmakers to support Ivy Tech’s ($67 million) plan to modernize and expand the Terre Haute campus. They said that if the funding is approved by the state senate when the state budget is finalized at the end of April, the project will add new training equipment for nursing, information technology, and childhood education.  WTWO
  • A resolution in principle was reached in the Pride Center of Terre Haute's lawsuit against Indiana State University over Pride Fest. The ACLU of Indiana filed the suit (Feb. 11th) in U.S. District Court.  Tribune-Star
  • On Tuesday, a Senate committee amended House Bill 1390 to ban outdoor marijuana advertising on billboards — the change now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee. Rep. Jim Pressel said the amendment is meant to curb ads that promote illegal products — while some advertisers raised First Amendment concerns.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Sakbun administration announced a new Deming Park pool project as part of efforts to boost local public health, with three design options under review and project costs between $3.5 million and $4.5 million—funded by ARPA funds and gaming revenue rather than bonds or taxes. Construction will begin this fall with an opening scheduled for summer 2026.  WTHI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Next weekend, the Vermillion Trails Alliance will host the 5th annual Victory Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k on April 5 at Vermillion Rise Mega Park—on the grounds of the former Newport Chemical Depot known for its past role in World War II and the Cold War. The Terre Haute Fire Department will also raise funds for Team of Mercy to boost mental health awareness, with Lueking adding extra firefighting gear to her run as each milestone is reached.  WTHI-TV
