- ➤ Tuesday afternoon, the Terre Haute Mayor’s Youth Council reached its $35,000 goal to fund a new playground at Coy Park and is still raising money. The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority will match the funds through its CreatINg Places program, a plan announced in early February. Tribune-Star
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday morning, nearly 3,000 Terre Haute elementary students experienced the arts when the Symphony performed its Adventure Concert series to spark an interest in music. The orchestra will perform its Decades of Pop concert Saturday evening at Tilson Auditorium. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Vigo County fourth graders attended the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra's Adventure Concert on Tuesday morning; many already knew about instrument groups—even though the program was meant to teach them the basics of classical music. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Country singer Brantley Gilbert will perform at The Mill on July 11—part of The Hoosier Lottery Concert Series—and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Tribune-Star
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A Yale University economist said the proposed merger of Union Health and Regional Hospital may raise commercial health care prices (10% to 30%), increase insurance premiums (3% to 10%) and lower nurses’ wages (about 5%) in Terre Haute. He warned that these changes could hurt consumers if the merger moves forward. Tribune-Star

- ➤ Vigo County Commissioners today drafted a letter supporting a $67,000,000 state funding opportunity for the Ivy Tech campus. The investment—if approved by the end of April—will upgrade labs and boost workforce training for over 8,000 local students. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Fern Edwards—former counselor at Terre Haute South Vigo High School—attended a VCSC facilities forum Tuesday evening at North Vigo High School where 46 people met to discuss high school facility needs. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Terre Haute Fire Department is recruiting lateral firefighters who are already career firefighters enrolled in INPRS—crediting one year for every two years of previous service and requiring a valid driver’s license, a high school diploma or GED, Firefighter I/II certification and EMT-B or paramedic qualification. Applications are open now and must be submitted by 8 p.m. on April 29. WTWO
- ➤ Indiana State University and the Pride Center reached a tentative resolution in principle in a lawsuit filed by the ACLU over moving Pride Fest—attorneys alleged the university shifted the event without including the Pride Center, and a final agreement could be announced soon. WTHI-TV
- ➤ State Rep. Tonya Pfaff and Mayor Brandon Sakbun will host a town hall this week—residents can ask questions about local and state issues that affect Terre Haute. The event will allow community members to share concerns and learn about upcoming plans. WTHI-TV
