  • Jersey Mike's in Terre Haute is raising money for Special Olympics Indiana with its Month of Giving campaign, where customers round up purchases throughout March; a Day of Giving on March 25 will donate sales to help 74 athletes compete at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.  WTHI-TV
  • Straight Shooter Archery is hosting an Archery Fun Shoot on Saturday at 4 p.m. to help local competitive archer Mattingly Walker raise funds for her travel expenses for an international competition. Archers of all skill levels can join in fun mini-games at the event.  Tribune-Star
  • Mayor Brandon Sakbun and his wife Paiton welcomed their second daughter, Elle James Sakbun, Wednesday night at 10:31 p.m. She weighed 7 lb 11 oz.  Tribune-Star

  • Angie Morgan (a Terre Haute business owner with Revolutionary War ancestry) was chosen by DAR for the America250 role after opening her dog grooming, boarding, and daycare business four years ago following her move from Hamilton County.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During a listening session Thursday evening, the Vigo County Oversight Board heard a range of opinions on a proposed school facilities plan from more than a dozen speakers (students, community members, local officials) who discussed the plan endorsed by the school board.  Tribune-Star
  • Local author Bret Ridgway is giving away 1,000 copies of his new children’s book, Games Animals Play, to underprivileged kids after a recent reading at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School and is seeking schools and community groups for future book readings in Terre Haute.  WTHI-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With below‐freezing weather expected early next week, the Lotus Center warming center will open Sunday at 4 p.m. + remain open until Wednesday at 9 a.m. to offer shelter, according to Terre Haute officials.  Tribune-Star

  • Thrive West Central and the Alzheimer’s Association will host a resource meeting on caregiving and the workforce from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 18 at Terre Haute Brewing Company — attendees will learn about benefits and local supportive services.  Tribune-Star
