COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department opened the new Collett Park playground today. The project was funded by remaining casino tax revenue from the 2025 budget and features equipment for all ages with ADA accessibility.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra has announced plans for a yearlong celebration to mark its 100th anniversary in 2026 — a milestone that highlights a century of concerts and community education programs. Details on dates and venues will be shared soon.  Tribune-Star
  • Alice Cooper will kick off the 2026 concert season at The Mill in Terre Haute on April 19 — UB40 featuring Ali Campbell will perform on May 10. The venue also added new concession equipment to support updated menu items while showcasing diverse music.  WTHI-TV
  • Art Spaces and the Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection announced on Mar. 1 that Terre Haute received a $5,000 grant from the Indiana Arts Commission Creative Convergence program. The funding will support planning for downtown arts projects + boost local cultural initiatives.  Tribune-Star
  • At Terre Haute Regional Airport on Monday, a new exhibit titled Hoosier Heroes in Aviation was unveiled to honor 12 local trailblazers, including Robert Shipp Jr.—the first Black air traffic controller at Hulman Field in 1968. The display aims to inspire future aviation leaders.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rose-Hulman first-year civil engineering students are asking Wabash Valley residents and community groups for project ideas, including parking designs, drainage plans, and park layouts. The 10 project teams will begin their nine-week spring quarter assignments on March 9.  WTHI-TV
  • Vigo County School Corp teachers will receive AI training this spring to boost student learning. The district currently limits AI use to administrators and teachers — but plans to extend it to students in the fall.  Tribune-Star
  • First-year Rose-Hulman civil engineering students are preparing design projects this spring and are inviting ideas from Wabash Valley residents and community groups. Their proposals include parking lot designs, drainage solutions, traffic fixes, site layouts, floor plans, and designs for athletic fields and parks.  Tribune-Star
