  • Bruce McLaren, a retiree from ISU, won a $10,000 drawing hosted by United Way of the Wabash Valley in Terre Haute—he and his wife Connie donated their prize back to support local investments.  WTHI-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new business opened on Terre Haute's east side on Feb. 18, welcoming local customers. More details about its services and hours are expected to be announced soon.  WTHI-TV
  • Bruce McLaren (on vacation in Florida) watched via Facebook Live on Wednesday as his proxy, Eileen Whalen, picked the winning box from Terre Haute Chevrolet for a $10,000 prize.  Tribune-Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sisters of Providence are hosting their annual Winter Used Book Sale starting tomorrow at the Foley Room in the Providence Spirituality & Conference Center on the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods campus. The sale runs daily until Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and funds raised will support the sisters' ministries.  WTHI-TV
  • Ava Rogers from Vigo County has been selected as the 2026 500 Festival Princess. A Terre Haute South Vigo High grad and Marian University junior (studying business management, global studies and pre-law), she will now represent the festival.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Terre Haute South Vigo High School is one of six statewide recipients selected for the 2025-26 Cambridge International Math and Science grant (announced by the Indiana Department of Education).  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Tonya Pfaff from Terre Haute introduced a bill that requires state education, health, and child services to share data on support for children with special needs, and it passed the Senate this week before moving to the governor's desk.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana lawmakers met on Tuesday to discuss Senate Bill 282 at a House Public Health Committee, considering new rules that would require medical spas to register, undergo inspections, and designate a responsible practitioner — amendments may be filed before today's deadline.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vigo County officials said that after affecting crows, avian influenza is now taking a toll on Canada geese (55 to 60 deaths recorded this week) as winter weakens the birds. Experts expect the cold-weather virus, which came from China, to decline when spring warms the air.  WTHI-TV
