COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wabash Activity Center hosts its second Heart to Heart Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 20. Guests will enjoy a heart healthy lunch provided by Sycamore Manor along with blood pressure screenings, educational materials on heart health, and a door prize drawing.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra received a grant from Arts Midwest Fund to launch Musical Chairs (an immersive program connecting high school orchestra students with professional symphonic music). Its music director will visit local schools this spring.  WTHI-TV
  • Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra received a competitive grant to launch Musical Chairs that will let high school students (from Terre Haute North Vigo, Terre Haute South Vigo and West Vigo) view a professional rehearsal on March 27 before the John Williams Celebration Concert on March 28.  Tribune-Star
  • Terre Haute South Vigo High School sophomore Toniloba Adeagbo’s essay on immigration won local and state honors and advances to the national Sons of the American Revolution competition. Local leaders Kent Salitros (SAR chapter president) and William Behnke (Indiana Society SAR president) presented the recognition on Wednesday.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terre Haute is ramping up efforts to replace blighted lots with new infield housing, as Mayor Brandon Sakbun said building inside helps boost the tax base and ease strain on city services. Seventeen homes have been sold, with most buyers coming from outside the area.  WTHI-TV
  • Today, the Vigo County School Oversight Committee presented its early findings on school facility and financial challenges to the Vigo County Council. The committee will meet again at 10:30 a.m. at the county annex to gather more community input.  WTHI-TV
