COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Indiana State University and Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank held a Sycamore Food Drive from Jan. 20 to 28 that provided enough food and hygiene items for 6,817 meals. Various campus groups + athletic teams participated to support families across the Wabash Valley.  Tribune-Star

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local entrepreneurs won Indiana’s first AWS-focused AI Pitch Competition held by the West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center at Scott College of Business + partnered with Amazon Web Services and Predictif, earning $100,000 in in-kind services to support their growth.  Tribune-Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Indiana State University will host the 25th Middle School National Science Bowl Regional Competition from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Root Hall. The event welcomes between 10 and 12 middle schools from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan and expects 150 to 200 attendees.  Tribune-Star
  • On Thursday (Feb. 5), Indiana State University student Sidney Pittman served as a student bailiff at an Indiana Court of Appeals hearing on campus, giving peers a firsthand look at the appellate process.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Demolition has begun on the abandoned Otter Creek High School building as part of a county blight removal project. Officials plan to redevelop the site and invite proposals later this year, and residents will be able to purchase bricks after demolition is complete.  WTHI-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hundreds of dead crows have been found in Terre Haute since early February with bird flu suspected as the cause. An Indiana DNR specialist is arriving today to test birds while officials advise residents to report sightings of three or more dead birds by calling (812) 231-1470.  WTHI-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • After plans for the (The Bash) apartment complex were dropped due to funding issues, the city is seeking a new developer for the large lot near downtown. Mayor Brandon Sakbun said a revised multi-family or multi-use project is in the works.  WTHI-TV
