- ➤ Special Olympics Indiana will hold its 27th Polar Plunge on Feb. 14 at Indiana State University, inviting students and local residents to plunge in icy water (supporting over 20,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities). Tribune-Star
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The pedestrian walkway on U.S. 40 east of Dewey Point is temporarily closed after a vehicle damaged the path (the Parks and Recreation Department is building a temporary bypass to reopen it soon). Tribune-Star
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Terre Haute Children’s Museum will host the 6th annual Son Plus Fun One Glow Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 21, inviting boys up to 12 + their moms or other significant female figures to enjoy an evening of glow-in-the-dark fun. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Crossroads STEM Kit Exchange, led by Rose-Hulman faculty and students, got a $25K grant to create STEM kits for grades 3 to 5 at the 14th and Chestnut Community Centers. First-year engineering students will build the kits this spring to offer hands-on learning opportunities. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Vigo County School Corp has proposed a consolidation plan to reorganize schools and save $146.4 million over 10 years (instead of renovating 23 facilities). The plan is currently under review to reduce long-term operating costs. Tribune-Star
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ UDWI REMC will raise residential rates by 2% on April 1 and by 1% in 2027 and 2028 to cover rising costs due to inflation and higher operating expenses. Wabash Valley members will see an increase of about $3 per 1,000 kWh used. WTHI-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Tonya Pfaff's House Bill 1325, which promotes data-driven care for special needs students, passed unanimously in the House on Monday and now moves to the Senate. The bill requires state departments to share data on service provision for special needs children. Tribune-Star
