CULTURE NEWS

  • Fifteen musicians in the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame Class of '26 will be honored at the 33rd annual induction banquet on Sunday, March 8 at the Zorah Shrine (420 N. Seventh St.).  Tribune-Star
  • The city honored nine honorees at a reception at the Vigo County History Center for Black History Month — eight chosen by a selection committee and one by Mayor Brandon Sakbun. Their banners will be installed downtown next month.  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A bill by state Sen. Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute) to align Ivy Tech programs with the evolving economy passed the Senate on Wednesday. The measure will update the college's governance structure to boost workforce development.  Tribune-Star
  • VCSC received a $180,000 grant from the Terre Haute Casino Resort Foundation to launch a new middle school football program after the school board approved funding Monday. The initiative will offer more athletic opportunities for local students.  Tribune-Star
  • Indiana State University President Mike Godard announced the appointment of Ardell J. Sanders as the new chief of staff as he transitions into the role in coming weeks & Sanders succeeds Rex Kendall, who served as chief of staff before his Jan. 7 passing.  Tribune-Star
  • Sugar Creek Consolidated kindergarten teachers held live eLearning sessions this week that celebrated 100 days of school and featured a marine biology lesson for home-bound students. The team teaching approach connected families and educators in a creative remote learning experience.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Terre Haute firefighters urge residents to clear snow from driveways and sidewalks to ensure quick emergency access, especially around fire hydrants. Capt. Nick Arnold recommends a three-foot clearing (making response faster) and asks neighbors to help those in need.  WTHI-TV
  • The Vigo County Oversight Board met Thursday morning to review a financial presentation outlining funding shortages for the county school corporation. The committee will evaluate options and plan to share its findings with the council by April 15.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana Senate approved a one-year state income tax break for overtime and tips to benefit Hoosier workers. Lawmakers opted for this measure over other federal tax cuts as part of budget negotiations.  Tribune-Star

  • Mark Bennett, the new book's author, details how small miracles helped turn Indiana State basketball into a national force by highlighting Larry Bird's key role. His book recounts the historic rise that changed the program.  Tribune-Star
