- ➤ Susie's Place conducted 1,399 interviews across 46 counties in 2025 and is preparing to help its 20,000th child in 2026. Operating centers in Avon, Bloomington and Terre Haute, the nonprofit works with law enforcement and mental health professionals to support abuse victims. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Lotus Center warming center, open since Jan.22, will stay open until Monday, Feb.2 to help residents as cold weather continues & officials said a follow-up notice will be issued if needed. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Thrive West Central invites the public on Thursday to view its new van and enjoy lunch at Copper Bar, 810 Wabash Ave from noon to 1:30 p.m.—the event also opens registration for its second annual golf outing and features remarks from CEO Ryan Keller. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Local Jeep enthusiasts with the Wabash Valley Jeep Junkies teamed with Meals on Wheels to deliver 150 meals today to residents across Terre Haute and check their well-being in the north, south and west parts of the city. Volunteers also help transport healthcare workers & support social connection. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Local Jeep owners known as Heaps of Jeeps (a volunteer group) are providing rides for health care workers to Good Samaritan Hospital and other nearby facilities, with 16 volunteers having offered over 125 rides so far. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Pathways Drop-In Day Center is offering warm shelter and basic services for people + pets at 504 South 15th Street as temperatures drop; the center will operate through the rest of the week. WTHI-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sculptor Bill Wolfe completed a clay model of legendary coach John Wooden on Jan. 21 at his 12 Points Neighborhood studio, and the statue will be cast in bronze before installation at a new welcoming center off Interstate 70 near Centerville — just west of Richmond. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Vigo County Schools will hold a live e-learning day tomorrow due to severe freezing weather (with temperatures forecasted between 5 and 8 below zero); Superintendent Chris Himsel announced the decision after 4 p.m. and advises parents and students to check with their schools for details. - ➤ Indiana State University improved its rankings among the 2026 Best Online Programs by U.S. News & World Report, credited to higher student engagement and stronger faculty credentials. The university in Terre Haute will showcase these gains as it advances its enrollment efforts this academic year. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Greg Muse and his wife Elizabeth have created a $2 million scholarship endowment at Rose-Hulman to support students pursuing technical degrees (especially women). The fund is named the Elizabeth A. Muse Scholarship Endowment Fund and aims to inspire future STEM leaders. WTHI-TV

- ➤ Union Health ER doctor Anthony Oraha warns that today's extreme cold is raising risks of frostbite, falls, and heart problems. He urges older residents and those with heart conditions to dress warmly and seek care if symptoms (like chest pain) appear. WTHI-TV
