- ➤ Indiana State University senior SkyLynn Butters joined dozens of students on Thursday to pack rice casserole meals for the Million Meal Movement (a food drive) honoring King to help local residents in need. Volunteers set up an efficient assembly line in Terre Haute to prepare these packages. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Covered with Love Diaper Bank received a large donation of Huggies diapers — a gift celebrating 15 years since the National Diaper Bank Network was founded — to support families facing diaper need in the Wabash Valley. Tribune-Star
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Human Relations Commission will host a reception to honor this year’s Black History Month Banner honorees on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Vigo County History. Tribune-Star
- ➤ A display exploring 160 years of bicycle evolution is on show at the Hoosier Antique and Classic Bicycle Club during the 2026 Winter Swap Meet this Saturday, tracing the journey from wooden wheels to modern bikes with rubber tires and a steel, diamond-shaped frame. Tribune-Star
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ United Way of the Wabash Valley invites applicants for the fourth African-American Board Leadership Institute cohort. The five-month program meets select Saturdays from March through July with a final celebration on July 30, and applications are due by Feb. 15 at 4:00 p.m. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Power has been fully restored at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with all services normal in every building, but classes remain virtual today (B.J. Riley said campus staff will work on-site). Tribune-Star
- ➤ The Time for Me Mentoring program at Ryves Youth Center pairs local mentors with youth to boost reading skills and build lasting relationships through regular library visits and homework help. Applications for mentors and mentees are available now. WTHI-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Braun announced that Indiana will join a federal initiative giving Hoosiers a nonrefundable tax credit—of up to $1,700—for K-12 scholarship donations beginning Jan. 1, 2027; eligible credits can be carried forward for five years. The measure is expected to boost school choice for families. WTHI-TV
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Thrive West Central is teaming with the city and ISU to start the Urban Homescape Initiative under the Homes for the Future program. The public-private project lets developers propose infill housing on ISU-transferred properties, with up to $6,500 support per unit and homes meant for sale, not rent. Tribune-Star
