ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Terre Haute firefighters responded this afternoon to a brush fire that escaped from a fire pit on North 9th Street. Officials said no one was hurt & minor backyard damage occurred, and they urged residents to be cautious with outdoor burns in windy conditions.  WTHI-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local film reviewer Maceo Milligan praised The Bone Temple for offering a fresh twist on zombie thrills after last year’s disappointing installment. His review highlights the film’s unique style and departure from the darker tone of its predecessor.  Tribune-Star
  • Air Show Director Dennis Dunbar said the Terre Haute Air Show will debut a new night show format on Aug. 22-23, replacing the traditional daytime program and offering a unique spectacle for local visitors.  Tribune-Star

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Terre Haute Regional Airport received a $250K grant from the Terre Haute Casino Resort Foundation to build a new hangar for the West Central Indiana Aviation Academy. The project will equip future A and P mechanics with essential tools (and one local company is planning to hire up to 2,000 workers in the next decade).  WTHI-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southwest Parke Community School Corporation is exploring a plan to combine its elementary, middle, and high schools on a single campus in Riverton Parke to address budget shortfalls from lower enrollment and reduced tax revenue. Superintendent Phil Harrison is holding public meetings (for community input) to find the best path forward.  WTHI-TV
  • Indiana schools must have AEDs at extracurricular events under a new law passed by the Indiana House Education Committee. The law, signed last July, requires written cardiac emergency response plans and offers grants to help buy AEDs + keep students safe.  WTHI-TV
  • Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology confirmed that its faculty received a $25,000 grant for the Crossroads *STEM Kit Exchange* project that re-imagines STEM education and boosts civic engagement for local students.  Tribune-Star

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce will host its annual County Update with Vigo County Commissioners on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Sycamore Banquet Center on Indiana State University's campus. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. as the meeting will focus on economic growth, infrastructure, and workforce support.  WTHI-TV
  • The Indiana State Police Wellness Section is seeking volunteer chaplains to serve as spiritual advisors in its expanding chaplain program. Qualified individuals can get more information from local department channels.  Tribune-Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Greene County General Hospital warns locals about phone scams where callers falsely claim a family member needs emergency surgery and request immediate electronic payment; residents are advised to verify calls using the hospital's public phone number at 812-847-2281.  WTHI-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Vermillion Trails Alliance is hosting training sessions for runners and walkers to prepare for the Victory Races on April 11 at Vermillion Rise Mega Park in Terre Haute. Board member Hope leads the program for participants of all skill levels.  Tribune-Star
