- ➤ A new Raising Cane's restaurant is proposed for Terre Haute, located at (109 East 40th Drive), as a rezoning request will be reviewed (next month) at the Vigo County Area Plan Commission; Commissioner Chris Switzer said he plans to vote yes on final approval. WTHI-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Ben Franklin Elementary took part in Young Authors Day today to boost creative writing skills. Hosted by Mobile Ed Productions with Vigo County Education Foundation funding, the event featured a mime-led assembly and live dramatizations of students' stories. WTHI-TV
- ➤ The Wabash Valley Community Foundation announced the 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship winners from Clay, Sullivan, and Vigo counties today. Recipients from Northview, Sullivan, West Vigo, and South Vigo high schools will receive full tuition, fees, and an annual $900 book allowance for four years. WTHI-TV
- ➤ Indiana State University mourned the passing of chief of staff Rex Kendall, who died Thursday at his home in Terre Haute (he served over 20 years), leaving a lasting impact on the campus community. Tribune-Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Carey LaBella was sworn in yesterday as a member of the five-member Vigo County Oversight Board, as state law requires the school board president to serve on the board. The school board voted 4-3 on Monday to name her president for 2026. Tribune-Star
- ➤ Senate Bill 78 — amended to protect students with medical needs — passed a key committee vote on Wednesday and will move to the full Senate for further debate; the measure aims to set stricter limits on cellphone use in schools. Tribune-Star
