IU Kokomo's online school psych program is drawing increased enrollment interest today as it seeks to address shortages in school mental health support — a development that may improve local educational services.
Vigo County School Board will hold an organizational meeting followed by a regular meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in Terre Haute (board officers and a meeting schedule for 2026 will be elected).
State lawmakers will debate education issues, including stricter cellphone bans, expanded STEM programs, and school efficiency measures during the 2026 session - changes that could impact local classrooms.

Terre Haute declared January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month when Mayor Brandon Sakbun announced the measure at the Vigo County Courthouse on Wednesday morning.
A banner now displayed in the rotunda marks the occasion while the Wabash Valley Coalition Against Trafficking gathers local data (including familial trafficking trends) for further action.
Drivers on I‑70 will face single‑lane closures in both directions for patching between State Road 641 and State Road 46 starting Monday, Jan.

City departments (including City Hall Maintenance and Code Enforcement) teamed up during a short work week to clean streets, alleys, and lots, with the Mayor joining the effort to remove more than a dozen trailer loads of discarded items headed to the landfill; teams are back out today to continue the cleanup.
The newly formed Vigo County Oversight Board will hold its first 2026 meeting at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Vigo County Council chambers + board members will discuss hiring financial consultants, legal counsel, and preparing for presentations by VCSC and Gibralter.

The Indiana Department of Child Services reported that in 2024 59 out of 276 child deaths were due to abuse & neglect, with 18 from abuse and 41 from neglect; 71% of the victims were three or younger and 20% involved a weapon.
